"La Mitad del Mundo" is an equatorial monument in San Antonio de Pichincha in Ecuador. The monument lies about 23 kilometers north of the capital Quito and marks the place where Charles Marie de La Condamine, with a French expedition in 1736, was the first European to determine the exact position of the equator.
Equal equations, signs for the beginning of spring and autumn, are interpreted artistically by AS Equa in two halves on the dial, which stand for twelve hours each.
An eye-catching orange of the upper ring, which symbolizes heat and embers, and the warm blue of the lower ring, which points to the mild equatorial nights. Both, like the equator, encircle the ocean, which is indicated in the dial with shimmering light and dark mother-of-pearl.
